Some places allow you to stroll around and choose the items you would like, while others will make deliveries to seniors who find it difficult to get out and get the items. Salvation Army – With locations around the country, this faith-based organization is a good place to go for food assistance. Rent Assistance Programs

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – This agency is part of the federal government is responsible for housing issues in the country. HUD provides more people with financial assistance for housing each year than any other entity. They have programs that will help them find affordable housing options and help pay for rent. They will also provide free weatherization services and help pay for necessary home repairs. Utility Bills Assistance Programs

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) – Seniors who are struggling to pay for their energy bills may qualify for help through LIHEAP. This is a program funded by the federal government. If you qualify, they will pay for your energy bill, sending the funds directly to the energy provider on your behalf. Winter heating assistance is from October 1 through March 31. Medical Bills Assistance Programs

Medicaid – Seniors who have not yet reached the age of 65 can apply for this program to receive financial assistance paying for medical bills. Those who have a low income may qualify for this government funded program, which will help pay for most medical b bills, including to visit the doctor, stay in a hospital, and obtain prescription drugs.
